BDK Parfums — Pas ce Soir Extrait
Essence
Pas ce Soir Extrait darkens the original’s quince-jasmine fruit with cocoa, peach, patchouli, vanilla, and ambered woods.
Scent Profile
Pear, mandarin, ginger, black pepper, and cocoa give the start a sparkling but darker fruit-spice effect. The heart keeps the Pas ce Soir signature through quince chutney, jasmine, peach, and orange blossom. Patchouli, benzoin, cashmeran, vanilla, and ambroxan make the base denser and more gourmand.
Performance
Longevity improves over the EDP for many wearers. Projection can be forceful early, then closer and denser in the drydown. Light application is enough for most settings.
Wearing Context
This is a fall-winter and evening scent first: dressed-up, sweet, polished, and sensual. It can work casually for someone who enjoys rich fruity florals, but it is not the shy version of the idea.
Comparisons & DNA
The key comparison is the original Pas ce Soir. The Extrait is darker, cocoa-dusted, longer-lived, and patchouli-forward; the EDP is airier and fruitier. It also brushes against modern fruity-sweet crowd-pleasers, but with a more niche quince-and-cocoa texture.
Reception
The main debate is whether the Extrait is worth choosing over the EDP. Praise centers on improved longevity and richness. Criticism centers on patchouli, ambroxan, indolic jasmine, or a feeling that the original’s sparkle has been crowded.
Versions & Reformulation
This is the 2023 30 percent Extrait reinterpretation of the 2016 EDP. Both are sold as separate products, and no later reformulation of the Extrait is documented.
Acquisition Notes
It sits in BDK’s upper niche tier and is generally available through authorized niche retailers and decanters. Sample first unless you already know the original works well on your skin.
Notable Facts & Lore
- It followed Gris Charnel Extrait as BDK’s second major extrait reinterpretation.
- The idea was to bring more color, texture, and addiction to the original Pas ce Soir frame.
- The name means “Not tonight,” tying the line to Parisian seduction codes and delayed expectation.
