Olfactive Studio — Woody Mood
Essence
Woody Mood is a 2017 redwood-and-incense EDP: a deep forest composition cut by a vivid shaft of bergamot and ginger. It is an artistic, cerebral wood rather than an easy generic woody scent.
Scent Profile
The opening is cut wood, bark and damp vegetation lit by bergamot and ginger. Saffron smooths the bright edge. That contrast continues unusually long, giving the fragrance a golden, sun-through-trees effect rather than a dark wall of smoke. Black tea, incense and sequoia form the heart. Jatamansi contributes an earthy, medicinal root quality and clary sage adds aromatic green lift. The drydown brings restrained cocoa, styrax, leather and patchouli: smoky, woody and resinous without a heavy tar effect.
Performance
Performance is variable. The opening can project beautifully for an hour or two before the fragrance becomes quieter and closer. Some people get seven to eight hours, while others find the central forest accord collapses quickly. Test it on skin before deciding.
Wearing Context
Autumn and winter are its best settings. It is unisex, contemplative and refined, suitable for casual-to-smart-casual daytime, quiet evenings and anyone who enjoys incense, tea and woods. It is more atmospheric than office-safe blandness or club-focused projection.
Comparisons & DNA
Comme des Garcons Monocle Hinoki is the most flattering wood comparison. Comme des Garcons Black and Imaginary Authors City on Fire are smokier, less flattering reference points. Within the house, Woody Mood’s redwood accord is more resinous than the cedar focus of Autoportrait.
Reception
Critical response is strong, particularly for the sequoia note, persistent bergamot-ginger and genuine evolution. The main reservations are inconsistency in longevity and, for a minority, a smoky-woody result that feels competent rather than novel.
Versions & Reformulation
Woody Mood is a single 2017 Collection Black EDP with no known reformulation. It was introduced in 2017 and remains in production.
Acquisition Notes
Niche pricing applies, with 50 ml and 100 ml bottles and an active decant market. A sample is especially sensible because skin performance is the central point of disagreement.
