Kerosene — Wood Haven
Essence
Wood Haven is a restrained Kerosene woody aromatic built around spiced grapefruit and light dry woods. It offers a more casual, less confrontational side of John Pegg’s work.
Scent Profile
Grapefruit and lemon arrive with black pepper, pink pepper, ginger, and bergamot. The opening is bright, tangy, and lightly warming. Juniper keeps the center aromatic before cedar, vetiver, and guaiac appear. These woods can read fresh-smoky, dry-resinous, polished, or faintly leathery depending on skin. The base remains lighter than the name suggests. Citrus and spice stay visible, so the scent feels more like a fresh woody cologne than a dark timber perfume.
Performance
Performance is variable. The opening is lively, while later wear can be moderate and close; some skin finds it short-lived. Clothing or a slightly more generous application can help.
Wearing Context
It is an easy all-season casual or office fragrance, with a small cool-weather tilt from pepper and vetiver. The style is unisex with a mild masculine lean and little risk of overwhelming a room.
Comparisons & DNA
Terre d’Hermes is the clearest grapefruit-pepper-woods reference, although Wood Haven is fresher and more ginger-led. Artek Standard helps explain its polished-furniture facet. Santalum Slivers is its closest agreeable Kerosene neighbor.
Reception
Fans enjoy the juicy citrus, ginger, and measured woods. Others find it safe, unremarkable, weak, or unpleasantly waxy in the drydown. Its discontinuation has made it more interesting to collectors than it was at launch.
Versions & Reformulation
No established reformulation is documented. The important status change is discontinuation, with only isolated claims of bottle differences.
Acquisition Notes
It was originally a 100 ml EDP at accessible niche pricing. Remaining stock, decants, and resale are now the practical sources. Availability matters more than counterfeit risk.
