Essence

RedColorado is M. Micallef’s green-smoky Western fantasy: pine, fir, cypress, birch leaf, guaiac wood, patchouli, cedar, sandalwood, rose, leather, and vanilla. Created by Urs Castelletti in 2023, it reads like a smoother, greener, more wearable cousin to Amouage Interlude Man.

Scent Profile

The opening is all conifers: pine, fir, and cypress, with bergamot adding brightness and birch leaf giving a crisp green bite. It smells like crushed needles and dry forest air rather than a polished aromatic cologne. The heart darkens into smoke and woods. Guaiac wood brings char, cedar and sandalwood broaden the timber, and patchouli adds dry earth. A small rose note softens the rugged frame without making the perfume floral. The base is leather and vanilla, with leather giving the saddle impression and vanilla rounding the smoke into something creamy and wearable.

Performance

RedColorado performs solidly without reaching the scale of its famous reference point. Around eight hours with average-to-moderate projection is a practical expectation. Sprayed lightly, it can work in an office; sprayed heavily, the smoke, leather, and vanilla become much more assertive.

Wearing Context

This is best for fall, winter, and crisp spring days. It suits outdoor wear, cool-weather daily use, casual evenings, and date settings where a smoky wood-leather trail feels appropriate. It is marketed through the men’s line but wears unisex with a masculine lean.

Comparisons & DNA

Amouage Interlude Man is the central comparison. RedColorado is less harsh, greener, creamier, and more approachable, with pine and cypress replacing Interlude’s sharper aromatic bite. Costume National Secret Woods is a useful dry-wood reference, while Encelade is a reference for earthier smoothness.

Reception

Reception is favorable but not free of caveats. The pine opening, balanced smoke, wearable leather, and red-black bottle draw strong praise. Criticism centers on the Interlude resemblance and on the vanilla, which some find too sweet for the promised ruggedness.

Versions & Reformulation

No reformulation or flanker split is documented. RedColorado appears to be a single 2023 composition.

Acquisition Notes

RedColorado sits in M. Micallef’s niche-luxury tier and is sold in a 100 ml bottle. Samples and decants are useful because the vanilla-smoke balance is the make-or-break point. The color-shifting bottle is a genuine part of the collector appeal.
