Essence

Ambre Chromatique is a 32 percent extrait that makes amber vivid rather than cuddly: cold incense, pink pepper and herbal davana slowly warming into benzoin, bourbon vanilla, amber and woody spice.

Scent Profile

The opening is cold, incense-forward and pink-pepper bright, not a plush amber blanket. It can feel herbal, camphorous or slightly medicinal, with a milky labdanum-like texture underneath. Davana adds a boozy, tea-like sweetness while osmanthus gives a ripe peachy nuance. The scent develops slowly, moving from fresh resin and spice toward warmer balsamic material. The drydown is the payoff: benzoin, bourbon vanilla and amber glow over a woody-spicy backbone. It remains less cozy and more faceted than a classic sweet amber, balancing syrup, resin, mineral coolness and spice.

Performance

Strong extrait performance. Longevity is very long, projection is assertive and the opening can be sharp if oversprayed. One or two sprays on skin is the best way to let the scent unfold without becoming overwhelming.

Wearing Context

Best in fall, winter and evenings, or whenever a slow, rich amber statement fits. It is unisex but often reads mature and elegant. Heat and casual daytime settings can make it feel too dense or medicinal.

Comparisons & DNA

Matiere Premiere Encens Suave is useful for the cold-incense opening. Ambre Sultan is the benchmark amber some wearers compare it against, though Crivelli is brighter and more molecular. Chanel Le Lion, Le Labo Poivre 23 and YSL Caftan describe nearby amber, spice and leathery-resin directions.

Reception

Very well regarded among niche amber lovers, especially for the pink pepper, incense opening, resinous depth and performance. The divisive axis is the woody-spicy captive material: some find it modern and addictive, others metallic, dissonant or medicinal.

Versions & Reformulation

Single 2022 extrait composition, no known reformulation. The house presents it as vegan and part of the Chocs Olfactifs extrait series.

Acquisition Notes

Premium extrait pricing, commonly centered on 50 ml plus samples. Sampling is especially important because the cold opening and woody-spicy backbone are divisive, and paper testing undersells the warmer skin drydown.

Notable Facts & Lore

  • The inspiration is a night trek through a mysterious tropical forest in search of benzoin resin.
  • It premiered at Esxence in Milan in 2022.
  • The scent explores amber as mineral, syrupy and resinous rather than simply sweet.
  • Akigalawood, derived from patchouli oil, is the most debated structural material.
