Essence
Puredistance M is Roja Dove’s 2010 leather chypre for the house: a discontinued, spiced, resinous extrait that became one of the defining niche leathers of its era.
Scent Profile
The opening gives brief bergamot and lemon before cinnamon and clove take command. Rose and jasmine add a narcotic floral shadow, but the soul is labdanum and leather: polished brown leather, resin, oakmoss, patchouli, vetiver, vanilla and clean musk. It is rich, formal and old-school without becoming crude.
Performance
Performance is powerful. Longevity commonly reaches a full day or more on fabric, and the scent can project strongly if overapplied. Restraint is part of wearing it well.
Wearing Context
M is best in cool weather, evening, formal dress and situations where a mature statement scent makes sense. It leans masculine by imagery, but the rose, resin and chypre structure make it wearable beyond that frame.
Comparisons & DNA
Vintage Hermes Bel Ami is the central reference. Tom Ford Tuscan Leather reads more modern and urban by contrast; M is more classical, spiced and resinous. Roja Dove’s later Fetish Pour Homme is a rougher, more animalic cousin.
Reception
M is admired as a holy-grail leather, especially since discontinuation. The main criticisms are price, similarity to Bel Ami for some noses, and the force of the cinnamon-clove opening.
Versions & Reformulation
The original 2010 M is discontinued. In 2022 it was replaced by M V2Q, an Antoine Lie reformulation with a different saffron-leather and floral direction. They should be treated as related but materially different perfumes.
Acquisition Notes
Original M is now a secondary-market or decant target. Anyone wanting an in-production bottle should sample M V2Q separately rather than assuming it preserves the same profile. Its discontinued status makes condition, storage history and a proper skin test important. A small decant is the practical way to judge the spice and resin balance.
