Stella McCartney — Sheer Stella 2010
Essence
Sheer Stella 2010 is a light citrus-apple rose built around an organic-rose story. On skin, it is less about a rich rose harvest than about watery lemon, crisp green apple and a very sheer floral heart.
Scent Profile
The opening is brisk: Amalfi lemon cuts through first, while Granny Smith apple adds a fizzy green-fruit snap. It is clean, casual and almost transparent. The rose heart is softer than the marketing suggests. It appears as a pale rose impression rather than the dense petal body of Stella EDP, which makes the fragrance feel more like a fresh fruity-floral than a rose statement. Amber provides a light base, rounding the fruit and rose without real weight. The composition is mostly linear: bright apple-citrus rose slowly becoming a close fresh aura.
Performance
Performance is modest, as expected for the Sheer series. Expect close sillage and moderate-to-short wear, with better persistence than some very fleeting summer flankers but little projection. Apply liberally.
Wearing Context
Spring and summer daytime, office wear, errands, hot days and casual settings fit best. It reads feminine, youthful and easygoing, more clean cottage-garden freshness than dramatic rose.
Comparisons & DNA
Stella EDP is the mother fragrance; Sheer 2010 is the lighter annual edition. Sheer 2008 is often remembered as rosier, while Stella Sheer 2009 shares the lemon-apple-rose-amber frame. Rose Absolute is far deeper and more formal.
Reception
Reception is mixed-to-lukewarm. Some wearers enjoy it as a sweet, clean, easy rose-citrus. Others find the rose buried and the result too bland or generic. It is a low-stakes pleasure if found cheaply, not a replacement for vintage Stella.
Versions & Reformulation
The 2010 is a distinct annual Sheer Stella edition in a limited bottle. It is discontinued, and buyers should not assume another Sheer year smells the same.
Acquisition Notes
Originally a limited EDT, now resale-only. The main risk is edition confusion: sellers may use the wrong stock photo or year. Confirm bottle design, note list and condition.
Notable Facts & Lore
- The marketing hook was organic mountain-grown rose.
- The limited bottle was designed by British painter Philip Jones.
- It continued the annual Sheer Stella ritual that began after the original Stella became a pillar.
- The fruit-forward structure makes it one of the least rose-dense Sheer editions.
