Essence

Stella Peony is the 2017 revival and rework of Stella in Two Peony: a peppery peony-rose with dry woods, patchouli and a soft ambergris-style base. Alberto Morillas made it fresher, younger and less moody than Stella while keeping a surprisingly androgynous floral edge.

Scent Profile

The opening is dewy and sharp: mandarin brightness, green floral lift and pepper arriving quickly. It avoids the sugary pink quality common to mainstream peony scents. The heart is peony, rose and geranium with a dry pepper thread. It can read more rose than peony, which disappoints literal peony seekers but gives the fragrance structure and bite. The base is cedar, patchouli and an ambergris-substitute accord. It dries down clean, salty, woody and slightly pencil-shaving dry rather than plush or sweet. The signature is peppered peony over clean amber woods.

Performance

Performance is the weak point. Expect average EDT behavior: light-to-moderate sillage, several hours on skin for many wearers, and a need to refresh if you want the floral brightness all day. The base lasts longer than the top.

Wearing Context

Spring and summer daytime are ideal. Office, casual wear and warm errands suit its dry floral freshness. The peppery opening and woody base make it less overtly feminine than the marketing, though it remains a pretty floral.

Comparisons & DNA

The direct predecessor is Stella in Two Peony, with some wearers finding the revival close and others finding it thinner. Compared with Stella, Peony is lighter, more floral and less ambered. Lancome Miracle, Glossier You and peppery florals are useful reference points, though none is an exact match.

Reception

Reception is affectionate but polarized. Praise centers on a rare non-sweet, peppery designer peony with a sophisticated drydown. Criticism focuses on weak projection, the rose-peony balance, and the sense that the revival lacks the charisma of the 2006 original. Discontinuation has pushed value sentiment downward.

Versions & Reformulation

Stella Peony is itself a revival of Stella in Two Peony. Launch and retail records point primarily to EDT formats, while later listings sometimes misstate the concentration. It is now discontinued.

Acquisition Notes

Secondary market only. Watch for confusion between the 2017 Stella Peony and the older Stella in Two Peony. The coral-to-white bottle and spotted wrap identify the revival. Sampling or decanting is wise because the pepper and dry base divide wearers.
