Essence

Shaghaf Oud Tonka is a plush almond-tonka gourmand: marzipan, cinnamon, orange blossom, rose, vanilla and amberwood, with almost no actual oud in the wearing experience.

Scent Profile

The opening is almond extract. It can smell like marzipan, cherry pit, amaretto or Play-Doh, and that note decides the fragrance immediately. Lovers find it cozy and edible; detractors find it plasticky or medicinal.

The heart adds cinnamon bark, orange blossom and Turkish rose. These notes round the almond but do not turn the perfume floral. The main mid-stage effect is creamy almond and tonka moving toward toffee and sugar cookie.

The drydown is warm tonka, vanilla and amberwood. It is soft, sweet and slightly powdery, often the smoothest part of the wear. The fragrance is linear in a comforting way if almond-tonka is the desired profile.

Performance

Tonka performs strongly. It projects clearly, leaves a sweet trail and often lasts through the day, with longer persistence on fabric. Heat can make it cloying, so it is better in cold air and with a light hand.

Wearing Context

Best in fall and winter, cool evenings, date nights, cozy gatherings and holiday settings. It can be office-wearable only with restraint. It is unisex by label but commonly feminine-leaning in perception because of the sweet almond, vanilla and toffee character.

Comparisons & DNA

BDK Velvet Tonka is the main comparison. Shaghaf Oud Tonka is sweeter, stronger, cheaper and more almond-forward; the BDK is smoother and more refined. Lattafa His Confession sits nearby in the sweet powdery lane. Within Shaghaf, Tonka is the gourmand outlier rather than an oud-forward entry.

Reception

Wearers praise its cozy almond-tonka profile, strength and price. Criticism is just as clear: no oud, too much almond, Play-Doh facets, powderiness and a feminine lean. The value is strong, but only for people who enjoy almond gourmand perfumes.

Versions & Reformulation

The EDP launched in 2023. A separate oil version appeared later and behaves more softly; it is not a reformulation. No documented reformulation of the EDP is known.

Acquisition Notes

Tonka is an affordable 75 ml EDP with some smaller sizes. Because the almond note is polarizing, sampling or buying a small format is sensible. A fresh bottle may become smoother after resting.

Notable Facts & Lore

  • The defining joke is that “Oud Tonka” smells like tonka and almond, not oud.
  • It is part of the social-media-era boom in affordable Middle Eastern gourmands.
  • Its turquoise bottle does not match the scent’s warm dessert profile.
  • Almond tolerance is the real buying test.
