Essence
Soul is Dominique Ropion’s sweet amber-oud for Costume National: cardamom, pink pepper, bergamot, oud, leather, geranium, ambergris, vanilla, and patchouli in a dense winter frame.
Scent Profile
The opening is warm, sweet, and spicy, with cardamom and pink pepper over bergamot. Oud takes the heart, supported by leather, geranium, and an ambergris effect that can feel animalic, salty, and mineral. The drydown is vanilla, patchouli, amber, and soft leather, with the synthetic oud remaining present through most of the wear.
Performance
Performance is strong. Expect long wear and noticeable projection, though it is better described as powerful and persistent than truly explosive. Conservative application keeps the sweetness in check.
Wearing Context
Soul belongs to fall and winter, especially evenings, dates, dressy settings, and confident cold-weather daily wear. It can be too heavy for warm offices or high heat.
