Essence

Crop 2022 is an annual oud study built around Arabian coffee: mint, cardamom, clove, cinnamon, roasted coffee, dark cocoa facets and oud in a dry smoky register. It is qahwa as a woody-spicy oud perfume, not a sweet coffee gourmand.

Scent Profile

The opening has a cool mint flash tied to the Crop line’s earlier oud experiments. Cardamom, clove and other spices quickly make the scent darker and more aromatic. The heart moves into roasted coffee, dark chocolate impressions and oud. The effect is bitter, smoky and dry: black coffee, charred woods, hot darkness and a little cinnamon warmth rather than vanilla sweetness. The drydown keeps coffee and oud in tension. Some wearers find it elegant and expensive; others smell ash, burnt hair or an unbalanced minty-boozy opening. The gourmand side is present as roasted bitterness, not dessert.

Performance

Crop 2022 smells intense in concept but does not behave like a projection monster. Expect controlled radiance, moderate-to-good longevity and a noticeable cloud rather than a huge trail.

Wearing Context

This is cool-weather, evening-adjacent and private or creative wear. It suits people who like dry smoke, bitter aromatics, coffee and oud. It is not office-safe compliment fishing, and it asks for tolerance of charred facets.

Comparisons & DNA

The most meaningful comparisons are internal. Crop 2022 revives some of Crop 2016’s minty oud chill while sharing dark chocolate shading with Crop 2021. Its distinction is bitterness: more coffee-led, less vanilla-sweet and more smoky than Crop 2021. Outside the series, the best shorthand is qahwa-style oud with mint and bitter cocoa edges.

Reception

Reception is enthusiastic but polarizing. Admirers call it rich, expensive-smelling and memorable as a coffee-oud composition. Detractors find it too weird, ashy, unbalanced or burnt-hair-like. Blind buying is sensible only for someone already comfortable with smoky oud, roasted coffee and niche oddity. For everyone else, sample first.

Versions & Reformulation

Crop 2022 is a distinct annual Crop edition, not a reformulated standing release. It was issued as a numbered 75 ml limited run and is now treated as discontinued. No separate reformulation of the scent itself is documented.

Acquisition Notes

The release launched in high-luxury collector territory, with 349 numbered, hand-painted, certified 75 ml bottles. Later discounting appears possible, but scarcity and polarization define the acquisition risk. Verify provenance and sample when possible.
