Santal Galore is a smoky fruity sandalwood chypre: aged Mysore-style sandalwood, durian, rose, osmanthus, deer musk, oakmoss, and smoke in a single unrepeated Areej Le Dore batch.
Scent Profile
The opening is the famous part. Durian appears as green, creamy, earthy tropical fruit, not as a rotten novelty note. It locks into sandalwood almost immediately, making the wood feel brighter, stranger, and more alive. Spice can appear early as cinnamon, clove, or cassia warmth. The heart moves into florals and smoke. Rose, jasmine, and osmanthus rise through sandalwood-root smoke, creating a sweet floral incense effect with creamy, savory, and match-smoke facets. The sandalwood is present throughout but never behaves like a simple clean wood. The drydown is powdery, musky, mossy, and animalic. Deer musk, oakmoss, tonka, and aged sandalwood make it plush and cosmetic, while the durian and smoke leave a faint grungy halo. On some skin the same base can read musty or yeasty, which explains much of the polarization.
Performance
Longevity is strong, often all-day, but projection is moderate. It wears as a dense aura rather than a huge plume. Warmth intensifies the animalic and fruity facets; cold evenings make the creamy sandalwood feel especially compelling. Apply conservatively.

Versions & Reformulation
There is only the original extrait. No sequel or reformulation followed, and the perfumer indicated that recreating it would require different materials and therefore a different scent.
Acquisition Notes
Retail was $350 for 50 ml, with 288 bottles made. It is discontinued and now trades through collectors and decants at high prices. The practical advice is provenance first, price caution second.
