Essence
Siberian Musk is the 2017 Areej Le Dore extrait that established the house’s reputation for tiny, materials-heavy natural perfume batches. It takes deer musk, pine, citrus, oud and resin into a cold, animalic vintage-chypre direction.
Scent Profile
Its beginning is unusually cold and green. Bergamot, lime and mandarin sit over smoky Siberian pine and faint fir, while galbanum adds a bitter edge. The effect is not a sunny citrus opening but the suggestion of a frozen forest at dawn. Deer musk soon becomes the center of gravity. It is buttery, fatty, sweet and faintly leathery rather than clean or laundry-like. Sandalwood, orange blossom and spice slow the musk into a floral-woody heart with the structure of a vintage chypre. The drydown is long and textured: oud, fossil amber resin, patchouli, vetiver and mossy woods frame the musk. It develops clearly across hours, becoming furrier, drier and more leathery as the bright top recedes.
Performance
This extrait has very long longevity and substantial, controlled projection. Deer musk can remain on clothing for days. Small applications are prudent, particularly in warmth, where the musk and resins can become overwhelming.
Wearing Context
Siberian Musk is most persuasive in cold weather, in the evening, and for intimate or deliberate social settings. Its animalic character is too unusual for a typical office. Cooler spring and fall days can work when it is applied sparingly.
Comparisons & DNA
Serge Lutens Muscs Koublaï Khän is a useful animalic-musk reference, while vintage Bal à Versailles helps locate the chypre and leathery floral structure. Russian Musk is the house’s direct conceptual successor, using upgraded materials. Siberian Musk Part III is greener and more pine-forward, and should be treated as its own fragrance.
Reception
The perfume is prized for the quality of its deer musk, natural-material density and unusually vivid chypre construction. Its polarizing point is inevitable: admirers find the animalic musk refined and sensual, while others find it too dirty, dense or ethically uncomfortable. Its scarcity also makes it more of an experience purchase than an easy wardrobe staple.
Versions & Reformulation
The catalogued fragrance is the original 2017 100-bottle edition. Russian Musk, a 2020 attar and the 2023 Part III are distinct releases. None is a conventional reformulation of the original.
