Essence
Delicate is one of Boadicea’s 2008 inaugural-line EDPs composed by John Stephen of Cotswold Perfumery - a classic old-school floral-green chypre built on grass, wildflowers, bellflower, clover, narcissus, jasmine, rose, oakmoss, sandalwood, and cinnamon. Distinctive less for any single note than for being a deliberate Edwardian-British-garden composition in 2008, a time when most niche perfumery was chasing modernity. Scent Profile
The name “Delicate” is misleading - multiple wearers note the perfume is “not delicate at all; rather sharp and green and very, very old-school.” Opening hits with a galbanum-grass-wildflower wallop: green-sap, bruised-leaf, a thick chlorophyll cloud with bergamot lifting only modestly. The galbanum, though not formally listed in the note pyramid (per wearers who triangulated the actual ingredients), is genuinely dominant and “quite strong right from the beginning.” Bellflower (hyacinth-adjacent) and clover add a sweeter green facet but the dominant character at first spray is uncompromising green-bitter.
