Ensar Oud — Albanian Van Gogh
Essence
Albanian Van Gogh is an unusual oud-free release from Ensar Oud: a bright citrus-pineapple iris composition with buttery orris rather than the house’s expected dense agarwood profile.
Scent Profile
Pineapple, bitter orange, and blood orange create a tart, luminous opening. The fruit is vivid but not syrupy. Cool, powdery iris and creamy orris form the center, softened by a light rose veil. A faint frankincense-and-sage nuance can make the citrus feel creamy rather than merely juicy. Musk leaves the finish airy and lightly animalic. Development is fresh to creamy and relatively linear, though a few wearers experience medicinal or iodine-like facets.
Performance
For a citrus-forward natural-materials perfume, persistence can be unusually strong and sillage moderate. It takes heat well and is easy to apply as a daily spray.
Wearing Context
This is made for warm-weather daytime use, casual outings, and people who want freshness with artisanal texture. It is genuinely unisex and not designed as a formal oud statement.
Comparisons & DNA
Erba Pura and Kirke are only loose references because their fruit-forward formulas lack the cool orris center. Iris Ghalia and Iris Noir explain the house’s iris lineage. Albanian Van Gogh: Nha Trang uses the same concept with oud, making the original the lighter, fruitier branch.
Reception
The fragrance is admired as a playful, complex departure from house expectations. Some find it medicinal; others object that an oud-free Ensar fragrance misses the point. Its price and limited availability make sampling the sensible route.
Versions & Reformulation
The standard 2022 perfume and the later Albanian Van Gogh: Nha Trang are different products. The standard version appears to have been retired, while the Nha Trang edition pairs the accord with oud.
Acquisition Notes
It occupied the luxury end of spray perfumery and appeared in 30 ml and 50 ml Pure Parfum formats. The standard edition is difficult to locate, so samples and carefully sourced resale stock are practical options.
Notable Facts & Lore
- The release was timed to Albanian independence celebrations.
- Its name connects iris impressionism with Van Gogh’s Irises.
- It deliberately abandons the house’s usual oud-centered identity.
