Parfums de Marly — Cassili
Essence
Cassili is Parfums de Marly’s quietly subversive 2019 fruity-floral feminine - a plum-frangipani-rose composition that, despite no peach note in the pyramid, reads overwhelmingly as creamy white peach on most skin. Co-created by Givaudan’s Calice Becker and Nanako Ogi under Julien Sprecher’s direction, it sits in the shadow of Delina (PdM’s flagship feminine) but has built a devoted following as the “fun, easygoing sister” - less powdery, less rose-forward, more wearable in daily life.
Scent Profile
The base is creamy, soft, and gourmand-leaning without quite tipping into gourmand: tonka bean, vanilla, and sandalwood form a milky-vanilla-wood foundation that supports the fruity-floral middle and extends the wear. Overall arc: tart-sweet fruit, lush peachy-floral middle, soft creamy-vanilla close. Linear in mood (fruity-floral-creamy), gentle in evolution, and notably less polarizing than the loud-rose Delina line.
Performance
Performance is moderate-to-good - better than wearers expectations for a fruity-floral, but not at the level of PdM’s powerhouse masculines. Longevity averages six to nine hours on most skin, with some users reporting all-day wear and a small minority complaining of only two to three hours of full strength before it becomes a skin scent. Sillage is moderate in the first two hours - projects reasonably within social distance - then settles closer. The fragrance behaves well in heat (the peachy-fruity-tropical aspect actually intensifies in summer warmth) and slightly muted in cold. Two to four sprays is the typical recommendation; over-spraying can push the powdery-base into headache territory, particularly for those sensitive to mimosa or vanilla. The Eau de Parfum concentration feels true - denser and longer than EDT-territory, but lighter than the dense feminines of MFK or Roja Parfums. For office wear it is well-judged; for evening sillage one of PdM’s louder feminines (Delina, Delina Exclusif, Oriana) outperforms it.
Wearing Context
Cassili is positioned as a spring and summer fragrance, and that is where most of its wearers embrace lands - bright fruity florals are warm-weather natural fits, and the plumeria-frangipani tropical edge reinforces this. It skews young-to-middle (mid-twenties to mid-forties is the consensus sweet spot), feminine-leaning but unisex-tolerant for those who enjoy fruity-floral compositions across genders. The occasion fit is casual-to-dressed-casual: brunch, day at the office, daytime dates, light evening events. It does not perform formal-evening or black-tie elegance - that is Delina Exclusif or Athalia territory. It is also not a “signature seductress” fragrance; the mood is cheerful and approachable rather than overtly sensual. One of the most repeated framings in wearers: Cassili is the fragrance someone who doesn’t normally wear fruity-florals can wear without feeling juvenile, because the mimosa-sandalwood-tonka base supplies enough sophistication to keep it from reading as a teenage body spray.
Comparisons & DNA
The most useful comparison axis is internal to PdM. Cassili sits in obvious dialogue with Delina (2017, Quentin Bisch) - the house’s flagship feminine - but the two are structurally distinct: Delina is rose-litchi-peony-vanilla with a strong powdery base, while Cassili is plum-frangipani-currant-vanilla with a creamy base. Outside the house, the closest reference points:
- Tom Ford Bitter Peach - for the peach-plum-sweet character, though Bitter Peach is darker, more boozy, more sharply synthetic.
- Mugler Alien - adjacent in the white-floral-amber territory, though Alien is denser and more cloying. - Burberry Her - for the fruity-soft-feminine register. - I Am Juicy Couture - a recurring less-flattering comparison from sample-buyers who find Cassili too body-spray-adjacent. It does not compete with the heavier gourmands (Lost Cherry, Angel) or the loud roses (Delina, Lancome La Vie Est Belle). Cassili’s particular niche is “fun-feminine that whispers expensive” rather than “statement-feminine that announces it.”
Reception
Reception has been broadly positive but quieter than for PdM’s tentpole feminines. Detractors fall into two camps - those who find it overpriced for what they hear as a designer-level fruity-floral, and those who object to the powdery-baby-wipe register in the drydown. Repeatedly surfaces Cassili as one of the “well groomed lady in pastel, no-brainer summertime” picks.
Versions & Reformulation
Single composition, no known reformulations. Cassili launched in 2019 as an Eau de Parfum and has remained in continuous production in 75 ml and 125 ml flacons since. The 200 ml format added by PdM across the lineup is available for Cassili in some markets. There is no Cassili Exclusif, no Eau de Toilette, no flanker. The composition has been formula-stable per wearer response - unlike Layton and Percival, which have widely reported reformulation grievances, Cassili has not generated significant “they butchered it” complaints.
Acquisition Notes
Cassili is currently in production and widely available. US retail at authorized boutiques (Bluemercury, Neiman Marcus, Saks, Parfums de Marly USA) sits at exactly $410. 00 for 75 ml as of late 2025 / early 2026 - confirmed across multiple authorized listings - and approximately $510 for 125 ml. Discounter pricing (FragranceNet, Jomashop) typically lands 25 - 40% below MSRP, often in the $250 - $320 range for 75 ml depending on stock and promo cycle, making it one of the more accessible PdM feminines on the grey market. Sample first via ScentSplit, MicroPerfumes, or Luckyscent - Cassili’s particular peach-plum-frangipani register is notably skin-chemistry-dependent, with some wearers reporting “soapy” or “plastic” tilts. The current US retail premium over Delina is small, so buyers debating between them should sample both.
Notable Facts & Lore
- Cassili was co-composed by Calice Becker and Nanako Ogi for Givaudan in 2019.
- Becker is one of contemporary perfumery’s most accomplished noses - appointed VP Perfumer and Director of the Givaudan Perfumery School in 2017, and the primary nose on most of Kilian Hennessy’s By Kilian line, with credits including Dior J’adore, Tommy Girl, and Tom Ford Velvet Orchid.
- Ogi is a Givaudan perfumer working out of the company’s Asia studios.
- Sweet perfumes are very much in fashion, a vital part of the craft today.
- I wanted ours to be anti-conformist, indulgent, yet, subtle, elegant and almost classic.
- This positions Cassili explicitly as PdM’s response to the late-2010s indulgent-sweet trend (Lost Cherry, Angel’s Share, La Vie Est Belle Iris Absolu) - a category the house had previously sidestepped.
- The name continues PdM’s horse-naming convention but is more obscure than the foundation-sire references - “Cassili” does not correspond to one of the famous Stallions.
