Essence
Apex Parfum is the denser, deeper, more concentrated sibling to the 2022 Apex EDP - the same note list, a near-identical brief, vastly different proportions. Where the EDP opens chordally bright and reveals the green-aromatic-leather core gradually, Apex Parfum sits in that core from the first spray: deeper cypress sap, heavier oakmoss-tobacco-leather, more labdanum, more rum, less citrus lift. The critic Michael Devine summed it up as “a deeper growl and deeper shades of green.” For committed chypre-leather lovers, it is one of the better modern-vintage masculine parfums on the market.
Scent Profile
The opening lacks the EDP’s orchestral chordal flash; instead it opens darker and quieter, with bergamot, mandarin, orange, and lemon hovering above a base that is already audible. Pineapple is muted relative to the EDP - present and dry, woven into the cistus-and-jasmine heart rather than reading as a top note. Within ten to fifteen minutes the woody-resinous structure is fully open: galbanum’s bitter green, elemi’s lemon-resin, cypress sap, fir balsam, juniper berries, and a labdanum pushed up into the heart in an unusual placement that spans both heart and base. The heart, across the first one to three hours, is the chypre-leather phase, and it is denser than the EDP by a meaningful margin. Oakmoss is more prominent and earthier, patchouli sits dark with no chocolate facet, leather develops a tobacco-pipe warmth, and rum and incense add a boozy-resinous body. Jasmine is structural rather than a perceptible floral - it is there to round the corners of the woods. As Devine put it, “fans of ’80s and ’90s boardroom-bosses such as the original Ralph Lauren Polo, Patou Pour Homme or even the modern classic Italian Cypress from Tom Ford will likely appreciate Apex in either concentration.” The drydown, from three hours on, is where the Parfum justifies its existence: cashmere wood, sandalwood, ambergris, benzoin, amber, and musk lock into a long, deep, slightly sweet leather-resin chord that hangs on skin for twelve hours and more, noticeably richer and rounder than the EDP’s. Cypress, oakmoss, leather, tobacco, labdanum, amber, and sandalwood stay perceptible; jasmine, pineapple, and galbanum recede to structural roles. The evolution is low - this is closer to a linear deep-woody-leather than the EDP, which moves more visibly from top to base.
Performance
Projection is moderate, and counterintuitively the Parfum projects less than the EDP - the heavier base molecules of the higher concentration diffuse less aggressively. Sillage runs close-to-skin to arm’s length, never room-filling. Longevity, by Devine’s account, stays a bit closer to the skin with slightly greater reach at twelve hours and more on skin, easily sixteen-plus on clothing. It behaves better in cold and dry than in humid heat, making winter and late-autumn evenings the optimum. Two to three sprays is the ceiling - the Parfum is dense enough that four or more becomes smothering - and it wants skin rather than just clothing, since the base needs body heat to bloom.

This is cold-weather formal and evening wear, the densest and most classical-vintage-masculine context in the lineup: black-tie events, winter business-formal, evening dinners, cigar-club settings. It falls flat in summer heat (claustrophobic), casual daywear (overdressed), and warm humid contexts. It pulls older and more authoritative than the EDP - the consensus is that it reads as someone five or more years older - and it is less suited to shy or conservative wearers because it signals presence even at modest application.

The praise centres on the seamless blending, the longevity, and the modern-vintage feel; the criticism echoes the EDP’s Sauvage-Elixir associations, the price-to-projection ratio, and a recurring sense that if you own one Apex you do not need the other, with many reviewers explicitly recommending you choose one.
