Essence

A 2025 limited-edition Bergdorf Goodman exclusive capped at 150 bottles, Champagne At BG is the fifth collaboration between Roja Dove and the Fifth Avenue department store. Designed as an aldehydic-champagne fizz over tropical fruit and oud, it sits at the upper limit of Roja’s commercial-niche range and was personally signed off by Roja himself, setting it apart from the 2025 main-line releases now overseen by his junior perfumer. This is a celebration scent - hedonistic, festive, and aldehyde-lifted, with a sparkle that explicitly evokes the act of toasting on Bergdorf’s seventh floor.

Scent Profile

The brand-disclosed structure is a top of aldehydes and tropical fruits, a heart of honey and a champagne accord, and a base of oud, vanilla, patchouli, and amber. The opening, over the first ten to twenty minutes, is a sparkling, almost effervescent aldehyde lift - bright and fun, and much gentler than something sharp and statement-making like Chanel No. 5. Tropical fruits glow underneath the fizz, mango- and pineapple-leaning, juicy without ever becoming a sugary fruit-punch, and there is a slight bubblegum edge that keeps the opening accessible. In the heart, across the first one to three hours, the champagne accord intensifies - less literal grape than the dry, mineral, slightly yeasty impression of a sip of brut. Honey adds golden weight without tipping into gourmand, and the fruits caramelize lightly. There is no aggressive floral heart here; this is a textural fragrance more than a botanical one. The drydown, from about three hours on, is light and smooth - vanilla, soft woods, and musk, with patchouli grounding the base without going dirty. The signature fizzy-aldehyde-champagne-over-golden-fruit accord persists in attenuated form, and the oud functions as a textural fixative rather than a dominant note. Anyone arriving expecting a serious Roja oud will be surprised by how quiet it is. The arc is largely linear, moving from brightness to softness.

Performance

Projection and longevity land at above-average. Real-world wear runs roughly eight to ten hours on skin, with the bright top fading by the second hour and the soft amber-vanilla-musk base carrying the rest. Projection is moderate - an arm’s length for the first ninety minutes, then a close aura. It performs best in warm-to-temperate conditions, where the aldehydes and champagne accord lift cleanly; in cold weather it can feel a touch thin given the price. Three to four sprays let the projection register, ideally with at least one on the chest, where body heat amplifies the champagne accord.

Wearing Context

This is an evening and special-occasion fragrance, with a broad seasonal range biased toward spring and summer evenings - holidays, anniversaries, weddings, birthdays. It is explicitly thematic, a scent for raising a glass, and it lands best when the wearer is in a celebratory mood. It falls flat as office wear, where it is simply too festive. Socially it reads as a feminine-leaning unisex, luxe, fun, and hedonistic - a fragrance for the kind of person whose social rituals include Bergdorf’s seventh floor.

Comparisons & DNA

Within the Roja line, the closest sibling is Tea At BG, the earlier Bergdorf exclusive that Champagne At BG follows up and mirrors in approach, capturing the spirit of an experience rather than a literal note. Bergdorf Pour Femme shares the Bergdorf aesthetic and aldehydic-floral DNA but is more white-floral and less fizzy-fruity, while Roja Love and the original Goodman’s Bergdorf Goodman round out the prior collaborations referenced in the launch material. Outside the house, Henry Jacques exclusives and Clive Christian No. 1 occupy the same ultra-luxury celebration register; Chanel No. 5 L’Eau offers an aldehydic-modern interpretation at vastly lower cost, such that Champagne At BG can be thought of as a hedonistic, fruit-augmented No. 5 L’Eau on a Roja base; Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540 is the obvious luxury-Instagram alternative at a fraction of the price; and Xerjoff Erba Pura covers similar tropical-fruit-amber territory far more cheaply. No clone exists as of mid-2026 - it is too new and too limited. Its lineage extends the Roja-Bergdorf arc and adapts the recent aldehyde revival into a hedonistic luxury frame.

Reception

With only 150 bottles in circulation and a late-2025 release, the wearer footprint is small but accumulating quickly. Enthusiasts are largely positive about the craftsmanship while skeptical of the value at the price, and the more thoughtful reactions treat it as among the better Bergdorf exclusives. Praise centers on its unmistakable Roja DNA - luxurious, detailed, and refined, a well-executed modern take on the aldehydic experience - while the criticism focuses on a slightly designer bubblegum quality in the background that keeps it from feeling truly special, and on a drydown so light that the oud is essentially absent. Notably, several wearers credit Roja Dove personally, rather than his junior perfumer, as the creator of this exclusive, feeling that it was crafted by his own hand and that he understands the Bergdorf client like few others. No major critic review had appeared at the time of writing, the release being very recent; the available video coverage mostly runs the obvious is-it-worth-it value argument. As a blind buy it is not realistic at this price and bottle count - the practical route is an in-store sample at Bergdorf Goodman.

Versions & Reformulation

A single composition in parfum concentration, 100ml, 150 bottles total, released in November 2025. There is no flanker, no reformulation, and no second run announced.

Acquisition Notes

This sits in the ultra-luxury, collector-exclusive tier: $1,200 for 100ml, available exclusively through Bergdorf Goodman. A decant ecosystem has begun to form, with small houses stocking samples in the 1 to 9ml range. For a full bottle, Bergdorf Goodman is the only source.

Notable Facts & Lore

  • This is Roja Dove’s fifth Bergdorf Goodman collaboration, following Goodman’s Bergdorf Goodman, Bergdorf Pour Femme, Roja Love, and Tea At BG.
  • The partnership is rooted in his documented affection for the store; at the 2019 Roja Love launch he wrote, “To celebrate the launch of our new Roja Parfums area in Bergdorf Goodman, I have created this limited-edition scent for the store that steals my heart each time I visit New York.” The 2025 release stands out as one of the publicly confirmed compositions Roja personally crafted in a year when the brand’s main-line releases were attributed to his junior perfumer, Antoine Cotton of Argeville - a split that enthusiasts read as a deliberate succession signal, with Roja keeping the highest-tier exclusives on his own bench while delegating commercial releases.
  • Cotton, for his part, has described being born in Grasse, growing up in Cabris, studying at the École Supérieure du Parfum in Paris, and taking his first steps as a junior perfumer at Argeville under senior mentors.
  • The store’s seventh-floor restaurant is invoked directly in the brand text - just like sipping a refreshing glass of fizz on the seventh floor - and the launch coincided with the Fifth Avenue holiday-window season.
